That Old Familiar Feeling

Welcome to our adventure!

As we take care of our final obligations, here, in CT, the reality is beginning to set in about what we are taking on over the next few months. Going through the checklist, we still have quite a bit to do to prepare, but where this journey takes us will be worth every bit of effort and determination.

This begins our story:

We reflected on a road trip we had taken a few summers earlier, reminiscing about the sense of freedom and adventure that we now missed so much. As we struggled to enjoy the "hustle" of finding a decent place to live together (with the dog, too), save the money to afford firsts and lasts, and working jobs that we enjoyed, but that left us feeling restless... something had to give.

We had been discussing the idea of finding a tiny house on wheels so that we could travel, and just take our home with us, but the list of reasons that would be difficult was growing longer. We were tight on cash so putting $30-60k into a pre-built, mobile, tiny home, would only mean adding to the debt that we had worked so hard to chip away.

So we reached out, to the ever-expanding world of social media, to see what/ who else might be trying to solve the same dilemma. And there, the firsts connections of @tinygetaways started to be made. As the community grew we wanted to take the first step and start looking for land to construct some sort of tiny home of our own. This initial outreach to the community helped kick start the rest of the journey and now, here we are, taking the next step, into the unknown. We purchased a few acres in the high-desert of New Mexico where we will be starting our tiny project. But much is left to be decided and discovered! Currently we are building our travel home on the bed of our truck and hope to be on the road in the next couple of weeks.

And, there it is, that old, familiar feeling starts to return. The feeling you get when you are pursuing what really drives you, that feeling of excited anticipation, nervous certainty, and terrified joy. Those who are bold enough to take their life into their own hands understand this feeling, well, and never ignore it because it's reassurance that they are doing the right thing. We're not exactly sure what were doing when it comes to construction, but we live and learn. It is so exciting to share this journey with you and be a part of the growing tiny community.

Mid-April marks the start of our travels, so check back soon!
